The “Fuorisalone” involves the entire city in a frenzy of launches and happenings that draw people from all parts of the globe. One soul and a myriad of nerve centres: discover what the “design districts” hold in store for you.
Established three years ago in the city’s famed, artsy district, Brera offers a rich events calendar. Set within the gardens of Palazzo Cusani (via Brera, 15), the Brera Outdoor Village offers a personal interpretation of the exteriors of Palazzo Cusani with rest areas, orange and maple woods and wellness spaces. The exhibition “Vivere alla Ponti”, a tribute to architect Gio Ponti, will be hosted at the headquarters of the Order of Architects of the Province of Milan (via Solferino, 19). On 20 April, Brera presents “Design Night”, a late night opening of showrooms and special events that welcomes crowds to one of the biggest parties on the Fuorisalone scene. The 2012 Fuorisalone event will see the launch of Porta Venezia in Design, a “never-seen-before” format targeted at promoting the best of past and present Milanese creativity. In addition to the circuit of design shops, showrooms and art galleries, offering an array of their latest innovations, visitors will also have a chance to enjoy a fascinating itinerary in discovery of the gems of early 20th century Liberty architecture which make this district one of the most characteristic in the city, amidst hidden courtyards, elegant stucco facades, mosaics and spectacular wrought iron creations. This former industrial area, converted, years ago, into one of the most important hubs of Milanese creativity, represents a major display platform of the Fuorisalone. Among the numerous initiatives on offer, worthy of particular note are the Temporary Museum for New Design (Superstudio Più, via Tortona, 27) created to give space to big name designers and young talents (in the section entitled “Discovering, other talents, other world, other ideas”) who display their skills through their collaboration with both renowned and emerging brands. Conversely, the “extension” of the exhibition, at Superstudio 13 (via Forcella 13 and via Bugatti 9), offers a productive fusion of design and various forms of artistic expression while the exhibition “Abitare il Design – Emotional Living” (Magna Pars, via Tortona, 15) is dedicated to the theme of emotional design.
