Downtown Milan is crossed by a network of pedestrian areas that enable visitors to enjoy one of the fastest cities in Italy safely at their own leisurely pace. The largest pedestrian precinct starts at piazza San Babila, crosses corso Vittorio Emanuele II, covers piazza Duomo, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and piazza della Scala, and continues through piazza Mercanti and piazza Cordusio right up to via Dante and the Castello Sforzesco. Other important pedestrian precincts include via della Spiga, inside the “Quadrilatero della Moda” and Corso Como, one of Milan’s hottest nightlife spots. A large portion of Brera, Milan’s artsy district, is currently being converted into a pedestrian area.
