Como Christmas Market [roughly 50 km from Milan]
The rich and fascinating centre of the city of Como (see our photo gallery), located on the shores of the eponymous Lake serves every year as a backdrop to special Christmas markets to an open-air ice-skating rink. The traditional market is also enhanced by themed shows and live performances for kids and youngsters, plus a ‘Magic Light Festival’ enlivening the festive atmosphere with shiny Christmas lights.
Lugano Christmas Markets [roughly 70 km from Milan]
Located 70 km from Milan just past the Swiss border, the city of Lugano boasts a typical Christmas market and a children village. The city centre and the areas around Piazza della Riforma host traditional wooden huts offering guests Christmas souvenirs and small objects, musical performances and food corners and themed activities for youngsters. The city centre also features a special open-air party on Christmas Eve, plus a majestic Christmas Tree enhancing the festive atmosphere.
Christmas market at Grazzano Visconti [roughly 90 km from Milan]
The Medieval village of Grazzano Visconti, located in the province of Piacenza, is the ideal setting for traditional Christmas markets held on different weekends (but not in consecutive dates) from November to January. The stalls offer a selection of handmade small objects, home decor and sweet treats, plus themed decorations. During the dates of the Christmas market, the park of the Castle of Grazzano Visconti (see www.castellodigrazzanovisconti.it) is open for guided tours and embellished with lights and decorations.

Verona Christmas Markets [160 km from Milan]
The highly central Piazza dei Signori becomes the stage of the wooden huts of ‘Christkindlmarkt’, featuring over 60 stalls selling traditional ceramic, wood and glass small decorations, local specialities and sweet treats. The most romantic ones can enjoy the atmosphere of Verona by kissing under the propitious mistletoe.
Natale dei Popoli, in Rovereto [200Km from Milan]
The People’s Christmas (Natale dei Popoli) is one of the most famous Christmas-related events in Italy. In the Renaissance town of Rovereto (Rovereto, near Venice, Trentino Alto Adige, also home to MART – a beautiful museum) artisans and artists from all over the world gathered in a melting pot of people and cultures. An occasion that celebrates the memory of the fallen of every conflict. Every night hundred of tolls and bells resound in the magic atmosphere.
Christmas market in Arco [210 km from Milan]
Over 40 wooden huts featuring decorations and souvenirs such as candles, wool scarves, gloves and hats, typical objects and clothing from the Tirolo region, as well as a selection of small pieces of furniture are the real protagonist of the Christmas Markets in Arco, on Piazza dei Signori, Cortile Mercato Vecchio, Via della Costa. Guests of all ages – especially the youngest ones – can play with goats, donkeys and small animals hosted in the surrounding area, admire the nativity scenes or eat some traditional delicacies.

Markets in Bolzano [roughly 270km]
Located just beneath the snowy Dolomites, the city of Bolzano hosts one of the most well-loved Christmas markets in Italy, featuring a selection of sweet and spicy delicacies, traditional vin brulè, strudel and hand-made biscuits. Guests visiting the market can also purchase decorations and traditional local products, both for men, women and children and for the home alike. Plus hand-painted Christmas balls to embellish the house and a big Christmas tree (see main picture).
