About the exhibition

As part of the “Il Talento delle Donne” programme promoted by Milan’s Municipality, the spaces of Palazzo Reale host the exhibition “Divine e Avanguardie. Le donne nell’arte russa“. The display is entirely dedicated to women told through the masterpieces of Russian women artists: from inspiring muses and icons to protagonists and creators of absolute masterpieces of art history that have influenced subsequent generations.
The display features around 90 masterpieces, most of which never previously seen in Italy, in a story about women and their role in society.

More about the exhibition

Spread over 8 different sections, the exhibition revolves around two main chapters: if, on the one hand, the first chapter focuses on saints and Holy Maries, empresses, farm hands and factory workers, intellectuals and mothers depicted by important master painters, on the other hand, “The Amazons of the Russian avant-garde” is dedicated to female exponents of an extraordinary cultural, historic and social atmosphere, active in the early 1930s.
