About the exhibition
Giorgio de Chirico, one of the masters of Italian metaphysical art movement, takes the stage of Palazzo Reale with an anthological exhibition curated by Luca Massimo Barbero. All the development of his artistic career, as well of its iconic style is revealed by a collection of some of his most significant paintings interpreted under a brand-new light. Through the display, spread over 8 rooms, guests have the chance to discover and analyse the painter’s production from the early 1920s up to the Mysterious Baths dating back to the 1930s, which reflect the most intimate expression of his unconscious.

Thanks to an ideal journey into De Chirico’s history and production, visitors can enjoy the full creative world of the artist, suspended between dreams and reality, as well as neoclassical visions and dreamlike atmospheres, where imaginary characters are the absolute protagonists of the narration. Thanks to never-before-seen pairings of works by De Chirico, the exhibition path offers insightful highlights to better understand the Hermetic painting, inspired by his childhood in Greece, developed during the artist’s stay in Paris at the time of the avant-gardes to give birth to a new stylistic genre: the metaphysics.
