About the exhibition
The new project hosted at MUDEC analyses the theme of Peru and Peruvians in Milan. Citizens from Peru, indeed, are the fourth community of migrants in the city and the first community in terms of numbers from the American continent. The exhibition opens with a focus on the centuries-old relationship between Italy and Peru and in particular between Milan and Lima. “Stories on the Move” is based on the history of individuals and aims to highlight important social and economic facts by giving voice to the people, through their reasons to move from their country (be it for a choice or a forced action), their dreams and ambitions.
The historical documents, pictures, works of art, images, objects and direct testaments on display show the bond between the Peruvian culture and the pre-hispanic culture in Italy.
Into more details
Among the featured stories, there are also the intellectual and artistic experiences of the Italian economist Antonello Gerbi and the Peruvian artist Jorge Eduardo Eielson that offer important food for thought by interacting with the ethnographic collection hosted at MUDEC. Moreover, the last section of the exhibition features videos and images of contemporary protagonists who left Peru to reach Milan to start new stories and life experiences.
