About the exhibition
The exhibition spaces of the Varese dwelling of Villa Panza host a selection of paintings, drawings, pictures, sculptures, installations and videos created between 1970 and 2019 by Sean Scully. The masterpieces featured in the exhibition “Long Light” are displayed in a chronological order to retrace the artist’s stylistic research and are inspired by the contemporaray art collection of Villa Panza. The masterpieces on display have been selected to highlight Scully’s evocative yet minimalist style based on the accurate selection and use of colour, on the balance of geometric elements and gestures and are displayed alongside the works of Villa Panza’s permanent collection to create a particular dialogue of art.
The artworks on display
The exhibition includes creations part of the Black Paintings and the Doric collections, where colour plays a key role. The masterpieces of the Wall of Light collection, featuring wide colour blocks put side by side recalls the light of Mexico del Messico, are displayed alongside the Madonna and Landline series. The visit to the spaces of Villa Panza ends with the Looking Outward site-specific work hosted in the spaces of the dwelling’s greenhouse.
