About Orticola

Now on its 24th consecutive edition, Orticola di Lombardia is one of the most awaited and well-loved yearly events dedicated to natural life, flowers and plants. Horticultural design exhibitions, open-air workshops both for youngsters and adults, special exhibitions by internationally renowned sculptors and artists are just some of the events-within-the-event traditionally held in the green hub of Giardini Indro Montanelli for Orticola. Moreover, those visiting the fair could also purchase a selection of the best decorative small plants and floral decorations created by local craftsmen.

What’s new in 2019

This year’s edition of Orticola happens in contemporary with the celebration of Leonardo da Vinci’s 500th anniversary of death. This means an even wider selection of side events, spread in different locations in the city.

– La Pergola di Leonardo at the Cortile delle Armi of the Sforza Castle. After the refurbishment of the Sala delle Assi, where the great Maestro painted the walls and vaults with large-size naturalistic drawings, Orticola pays tribute to the work of Leonardo da Vinci by recreating with real flowers such as mulberries the lush flower bower drawn by Leonmardo in 1498.

A new Fuori Orticola programme featuring cultural initiatives involving exhibitions and museums. On this occasion Mudec, Museo del ‘900, Museo Diocesano welcome visitors with reduced fares. Moreover, GAM, Gallerie d’Italia, Museo Bagatti Valsecchi, Orto Botanico di Brera, Museo Poldi Pezzoli, Palazzo Reale, Triennale di Milano and MuBa offer special activities and installations with a special focus on green and plant life.

– For the Vetrine Fiorite initiatives, a large number of window displays in the city are set to embellish their spaces with plants and flowers to create a greener environment.

Born in 2018, Orticola Arte returns in the city with a new project, a new artist – Pao – and the same aim: providing youngsters from primary school with entertaining and educational laboratories to fuel their interest in environmental sustainability and safeguard.
