About the exhibition
The artistic vision of the French artist Neïl Beloufa takes centre stage in the spaces of the Shed, inside Milan’s Pirelli HangarBicocca. His research focuses on contemporary society and on the way it is represented and mediated by digital interaction. Throughout the display, the artist plays with the sensory experience of the viewer through videos, feature films, sculptures and technologically complex installations, inviting him to confront his own beliefs and stereotypes on issues of the present ranging from power relations to digital surveillance, from data collection to nationalistic ideologies, from identity to a post-colonial reading of the world.

“Digital Mourning” is the first solo exhibition dedicated to Neïl Beloufa in an Italian institution and is the result of a reflection on the current panorama and the concept of life in the digital world. The title itself alludes to one of the paradoxes of contemporary society, the existence of a technological world and its disappearance. The association of the two terms “digital” and “mourning” is resolved in the encounter between the absence of life and an artificial context, a dimension where life itself is simulated through models specially constructed to understand its essence.
Featuring a vast array of works, the exhibition looks like a new multimedia installation that emulates the scenario of an ‘amusement park‘ in which the works come to life in response to a series of narrating figures.
