The latest edition of the Michelin Guide 2020 has nominated the region of Lombardy as the first region in Italy with the highest number of Michelin-starred restaurants, thanks to its impressive number of 62 restaurants in the whole region, 20 of which are located in Milan and in its surroundings. Enrico Bartolini al Mudec– 3 stars (N)
The understanding of origins, creativity and the open-minded approach to the world and globalization, applied to the world of haute cuisine are the key to the success of the young and talented chef Enrico Bartolini. His own-name restaurant in the scenic location of Mudec-Museo delle Culture in via Tortona, and refers to his cuisine as ‘contemporary classic’. In 2020, Enrico Bartolini is the only gourmet destination in Milan awarded with 3 Michelin stars.
Il Luogo di Aimo e Nadia - 2 stars
The two stars awarded to historic restaurant Il Luogo di Aimo e Nadia have also been reconfirmed. Although husband and wife team Aimo and Nadia no longer head the restaurant, their style of cooking lives on in the cuisine of Alessandro Negrini and Fabio Pisani, two immensely talented chefs, who continue the tradition of its owners with a menu based on sublime regional Italian cuisine re-interpreted with an innovative twist.
Seta by Antonio Guida - 2 stars
The hotel industry is also renowned for its starred chefs, including Antonio Guida, who heads Seta, the multi-award winning restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental Milan. Pugliese by birth, the chef’s heart now beats for the city of the Madonnina, because it was here, at the world’s most starred hotel group that Guida received his first Michelin star, followed by a second star in 2017.
Vun – 2 stars
Vun, the restaurant at Milan’s Park Hyatt hotel – whose name means ‘one’ in Milanese dialect – carries the signature of starred chef Andrea Aprea. The featured menu offers a sophisticated gastronomic experience that surprises diners on account of its seasonal classics upgraded with an inventive twist.
L'Alchimia – 1 star (N)
Set in a modern and chic ambience enhanced by a bar-bistrot area for a quick lunch, L’ Alchimia titillates the palates with delicate yet creative specialities based on the use of highly-selected ingredients. Here, under the direction of chef Misha Sukyas, olive oil plays a key role.
Berton - 1 star
In the heart of Porta Nuova, Ristorante Berton is the gourmet kingdom of Andrea Berton. The restaurant’s contemporary, minimalist design matches the beautiful simplicity of its dishes. Menus are designed to make the most of fresh, locally sourced ingredients, with a strong focus on flavour and texture. A must? The risotto!
Contraste - 1 star
Particularly worthy of mention among Milan’s starred restaurants is the creative cuisine served by Matias Perdomo at Contraste. A surprising location where the flavors of tradition are re-interpreted in unusual shapes and contrasting flavours that will not disappoint. A fun experience that is also a treat for the palate.
Cracco - 1 star
A star in his own right, Carlo Cracco opened its new venue in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in 2018. Spread over several floors, Cracco’s latest food destination is the result of a brilliant renovation, where the interior ‘interacts’ with the Galleria. The space hosts a bar, a bistro for a quick break, a pasticceria, a cellar and a location for private events
Felix Lo Basso - 1 star
Boasting a breathtaking view over the Duomo (more specifically on the fifth floor of the TownHouse Hotel) connoisseurs of taste can find Felix Lo Basso, a restaurant renowned for its tantalizing cuisine, featuring a perfect combination of northern and southern Italian dishes, with a particular focus on surf and turf.
Innocenti Evasioni - 1 star
Located just a short distance outside the centre, an absolute must is Innocenti Evasioni, the home of Tommaso Arrigoni. The locale’s strength lies in its sought-after tables, where you can eat outdoors in a charming, unexpected zen-style garden. This is an ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle of metropolitan life and enjoy a few hours of peace and relaxation
IT Milano - 1 star (N)
Helmed by two-michelin starred chef Gennaro Esposito, this contemporary restaurant is distinguished by its simple style, built around a main product with few well-balanced additions. Ingredients with opposite flavours find an indeal balance at IT Milano‘s creations, inspired by the Italian cuisine both from the North and the South.
Iyo - 1 star
The first Oriental restaurant awarded with the prestigious star in Italy, Iyo owes its fame to its outstanding kitchen staff, helmed by maestro Haruo Ichikawa, chef Lorenzo Lavezzari and owner Claudio Liu. Their fish division turns out delicious raw fish platters: timeless classics mingle with more innovative delicacies, a blend of oriental flavours and the best Italian ingredients, to give life to a one-of-a-kind culinary experience.
Joia - 1 star
Pietro Leemann – the owner and chef of Joia – is considered the guru of vegetarian food or, according to his own definition, of “natural haute cuisine”. At the moment, Pietro Leemann and his restaurant Joia maintain the record of Europe’s only starred vegetarian (or natural food) restaurant. His cuisine is avant-garde, experimental, skillfully prepared and beautifully presented. The wine list is just as classy as the restaurant.
Lume by Luigi Taglienti - 1 star
Set into a former industrial area in Navigli district – in the spaces that previously hosted the famous ceramic factory Richard Ginori – the pure white restaurant serves a meld of traditional flavours and innovative touches. Each creation is the brainchild of chef Luigi Taglienti and is made only with the use of fresh, locally sourced produce.
(il) Ristorante Trussardi alla Scala - 1 star
In the heart of the centre, just steps from the Madonnina, lovers of fine dining can find Il Ristorante Trussardi alla Scala, a one Michelin-starred venue helmed by chef Roberto Conti. In keeping with the eponymous fashion house, and like its collections, the restaurant’s ingredients are based on seasonal cycles.
Sadler - 1 star
The star of Sadler, and its namesake chef Claudio Sadler continues to shine on the Navigli. One of the first chefs to focus on the aesthetics of a dish, with a focus on modern, geometric and colourful presentations, Sadler prepares beautiful creations that can be compared with contemporary art, of which he is an enthusiastic fan. It’s a restaurant cum art gallery that hosts the works of contemporary artists on a rotational basis
Tano Passami l’Olio - 1 star
The restaurant owned by chef Tano Simonato, has also been reconfirmed. Although this locale is simple, it is characterized by a typically Milanese atmosphere serving carefully curated cuisine with a particular emphasis on only the highest quality ingredients. Its extensive wine list boasts more than 450 labels, including rare and often unknown vintages.
Tokuyoshi - 1 star
Yoji Tokuyoshi’s cuisine is the perfect meld between tradition and creativity as well as a combination of Italian and Japanese cuisine. The different menus are sided by top quality wine selections and traditional sakès.
Viva Viviana Varese- 1 star
An elegant, warm and welcoming restaurant located inside the former Cinema Smeraldo, now home to Eataly Milano. Sat at the wood social table overlooking the open plan kitchen or alongside the large-size windows, at VIVA guests can savour the vibrant and original pairings created by chef Viviana Varese, inspired by the most contemporary version of the Italian cuisine.
D'O - 1 star (city of Cornaredo, near Milan)
Located in the outskirts of Milan, Davide Oldani’s pop cuisine reigns supreme at D’O, his starred venue in Cornaredo. The chef’s avant-garde menu combines taste and creativity with a touch of humour.The creations are paired with a rich selection of precious wine labels.
