A former industrial plant, Hangar Bicocca is a lively cultural space dedicated to the production, display and promotion of contemporary art. Permanent exhibitions include “I Sette Palazzi Celesti”, the monumental towers created by German artist Anselm Kiefer (see photo) enriched by five never-seen-before big paintings realised between 2009 and 2013. They symbolise a stylised city acting as a stage to Jewish and German culture; moreover, an installation by Fausto Melotti “La Sequenza”, located outside adds up to the already remarkable offer. Hangar Bicocca features a number of spaces designed to accommodate various initiatives and free events including HB Kids, creative itineraries, films and activities for children; HB Public, film festivals, guided tours, meetings with artists and bike tours in discovery of the post-industrial Bicocca district; HB School, educational activities for schools; HB Lab, a multi-functional space offering free consultation of material, multimedia stations and equipment for conferences and screenings; Dopolavoro Bicocca, bistrot/restaurant.
Hangar Bicocca is one of the locations of the 21st Triennale 2016.
