A never-before-seen Teatro alla Scala

When the shows are on, finding a seat at Teatro alla Scala can be a hard task. Surprisingly, the COVID-19 lockdown makes it easy thanks to new online tours powered by Google Arts&Culture enabling opera, ballet and music lovers to explore over 20,000 sq.m of La Scala Opera House from home. The backstage, the stage, the Royal Box and the historical boxes, the parterre, the various halls of the theatre, the foyer and the laboratories can all be seen thanks to the Steet View technology, as well as over 259,000 images that are currently part of the archives. Stage objects and costumes – some of which were made by great designers – as well as jewels worn by Maria Callas and other divas can be discovered close-up thanks to the Art Camera tool, which also enables opera lovers to read the origianl scripts from Nabucco and Tourandot.

At-home show

Besides admiring a rich collection of high resolution shots form some of the most iconic performances – be it ballet, opera or symphonic concerts – visitors can also enjoy a special at-home performance. On the official Teatro alla Scala’s YouTube channel guests can enjoy Giuseppe Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra played by 92 artists among solists, choristers and musicians united in a unique performance each one from his or her own home.
