Velasca Milano, one of the most exquisite stores to have emerged over the past few months, is situated at number 2 Piazza Sempione, in front of the Arco della Pace, in the heart of the ‘movida milanese’. It is here that the dream of two young Milanese entrepreneurs became reality. After deciding to abandon their previous lives, they created this little/ big emporium that, in the space of a short time, has captivated the world at- large. Entirely handcrafted in Italy, all the “young shoes of people who speak Milanese” are distinguished by one of the brand’s hallmark features, namely the fact that each pair references a name in Milanese dialect, a ‘language’ that is fast disappearing. This boutique deserves a visit for 3 simple reasons. The first is their production. Attention to detail, a wide, astute offer and great value for money. The brand’s Oxfords are superlative, their black ‘Precis’ featuring brogue decorations and their brown ‘Cicisbeo’ are among my favourites. The second is the boutique. A real gem of refinement, it tempts customers inside. An air of nostalgia hovers over the vintage items strewn throughout the shop. The third is the area. In the evening it becomes the epicenter of the coolest aperitivo scene in Milan, a perfect retreat on hot summer nights. My suggestion? An aperitivo in the area, a visit to the shop which stays open until 9pm and a pair of “Vivoeur” perfectly in keeping with the overall setting.
