New Premieres for Winter 2017 at Leonardo3

by Giulia Minero

Innovative multimedia exhibition Leonardo3-Il Mondo di Leonardo never ceases to amaze with its new projects: a unique opportunity to interact with Leonardo’s inventions through innovative, engaging media, several of which have been designed specifically for youngsters.
Boasting the sale of almost 600,000 tickets, the exhibition dedicated to Renaissance genius Leonardo da Vinci has reached an important watershed. A success that is also due to the constant presence of Italian and foreign visitors, which led to the decision to extend the exhibition until 31 December 2017. Its many innovations include several world premieres: two machines, the flying ‘Bicycle’ and the flying ‘Tandem’, a multimedia experience dedicated to the ‘Vitruvian Man’ and the ‘Incendiary Sphere’. The flying ‘Bicycle’ and flying ‘Tandem’ projects originate from page 897 of Leonardo’s ‘Codex Atlanticus’ which contains two variations of the same idea, with respectively one or two pilots. In addition to the new flying machines, the exhibition now also hosts a 3D multimedia installation dedicated to Leonardo’s famous anatomical drawing of the Vitruvian man, a perfect example of the ideal proportional canons of the human body based on studies by Vitruvius. Another new addition to the exhibition is the ‘Incendiary Sphere’, a massive incendiary globe resembling the first fragmentation bomb in history, capable of inflicting devastating damage to the enemy. Finally, in collaboration with ‘Leonardo a Milano’, every Saturday and Sunday from 12- noon to 5pm, visitors will be given a chance to enjoy an unforgettable experience by personally recreating ‘The Last Supper’ in a specially equipped room under the supervision of qualified instructors. All interactive experiences are in both Italian and English and, to encourage the use of their content by a wider public, audio guides in Italian, English, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese are also available.
